The Yorkton Speed Swim Club recently wrapped up their season by holding their awards dinner.

The club presented five awards to very deserving young swimmers at the supper. Head coach Ashley Benko pointed out that the purpose of the awards is to recognize a few of the club's swimmers that have done something special this season.

Jennifer Haczkewicz received the "Golden Goggle Award" recognizing her for her success in competition this past season. She recorded three "AA times" this past season allowing her to compete at the coveted ManSask Meet in Winnipeg.

Auston Roberts was awarded the Most Improved Swimmer Award. Roberts improved on his personal best times each time he entered into a swim meet. On several occasions his improvements were to the magnitude of shaving 30 or more seconds off of his previous best performances.

The Spirit of Swimming Award was presented to Jessica Santfleben, who makes the drive in from Melville, to train with the club and very rarely misses a training session. Her commitment and dedication to the sport help raise the bar for all of the young swimmers around her.

Kyra Freshak and Connor Watrych rounded out the club's award winners receiving the IronWoman and IronMan awards, respectively. Both of these awards are presented to the swimmer that attends all practices and makes the most of their training time in the water.

Benko says that the awards dinner officially wrapped up the speed swimming season, but added that the start of next season is just around the corner. Interested swimmers can check us out at City Wide Registration this September at the FlexiHall.

Registration information can also be picked up at the pool.
