The McSweeney's Selects girls volleyball team is getting set to host a tournament this weekend. The 18 & Under Women's SVA (Saskatchewan Volleyball Association) SASK Cup 2 will be played at the Gloria Hayden Centre and the Flexihall.


The McSweeney's Selects girls volleyball team is getting set to host a tournament this weekend. The 18 & Under Women's SVA (Saskatchewan Volleyball Association) SASK Cup 2 will be played at the Gloria Hayden Centre and the Flexihall. Round robin play starts at 8 a.m., on Saturday and goes until the last match at 2:30 p.m. There will be repools, crossovers and playoffs to follow.


Susanne Mitchell of Kee's Tae Kwon Do in Yorkton is leaving today on a trip that will take her to Spain and Egypt for Tae Kwon Do competition. She will be serving as a referee in an open tournament in Spain and then will be moving onto the world junior championships.


The Yorkton Harvest Hockey Club is putting together a bid to host the Western Regional Hockey Championships in 2014. The tournament involves Midget AAA hockey teams from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northern Ontario. Yorkton Harvest president Garth Simms said it will be Saskatchewan's turn to host the event and at least a couple other teams in Yorkton's league will likely apply to try and host. "We're working on a submission right now," quotes Simms.


Practices have started at the Gloria Hayden Centre for the Yorkton girls' softball team. The team is still looking for players. Practicing takes place on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 p.m., on April 15 and April 22. Practice dates are available to anyone interested in playing and are available at no cost. There will be a registration day on March 28.


The Yorkton Regional High School cheer team performed at the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association provincials competition over the weekend. Coach Priya Pandit said she was happy with the way the team performed. She said that the cheerleading season is now done for the YRHS. For more, see Page A22.
