Paul Toth of the Yorkton Regional High School is in the running to win the Defensive Player of the Year Award from the Regina Intercollegiate Football League. Voting will take place on Nov. 22.


The Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS)senior boys volleyball team will be attempting to solidify a spot in this year's provincial volleyball tournament. This weekend, they are hosting the southern regionals in their home gym. YRHS will be hoping for a top three finish in order to qualify for the provincials. Also competing will be Estevan, Weyburn, Balgonie, Swift Current as well as three clubs from Moose Jaw (Vanier, Peacock and Central). The tournament schedule was not readily available come press time.




The Yorkton Harvest have a road game this week when they travel to Saskatoon tomorrow night. Their next home date is scheduled for Nov. 16 when they host the Pat Canadians.


The senior girls volleyball team qualified for the regional tournament which will be held in Oxbow this weekend, says coach Perry Enns (see related story on this page). The senior boys team at SHHS will be hosting Conference play beginning this morning. See story on Pg A14.


The National Archery in the Schools Program World tournament was held in Florida recently. About 22 locals packed their bags and headed down south for one of the largest archery shoots in North America.


The Sherring Gold Pee Wee AA hockey game for cancer awareness was played at the Kinsmen Arena on Oct. 28. Coach Ed Zawatsky organized the event as an opportunity and as a learning experience for his players. The teams playing were Yorkton and Melville. The Yorkton players acknowledged the event by wearing pink stick tape and laces and also supplied them to the Melville team. Rayanne Ottenbreit sang the national anthem and cancer survivor Darwin Kustra dropped the puck.
