The Sacred Heart senior boys basketball team also played in the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association high school regional tournament. Coach Garrett Karcha said they won their first game, a 74-62 decision over Swift Current.

SHHS then advanced to the final against North Battleford who won and as a result, advanced to Hoopla this weekend in Regina. Preston Liebrecht was the high scorer in the North Battleford game tallying 26 points.


Susanne Mitchell of Kee's Tae Kwon Do in Yorkton is leaving today on a trip that will take her to Spain and Egypt for Tae Kwon Do competition. She will be serving as a referee in an open tournament in Spain and then will be moving onto the world junior championships.


The Yorkton PeeWee Terriers are playing in a best-of-three playoff series in South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League. Yorkton held a 1-0 series lead on Saturday and had a possible two games in hand.


The Yorkton Harvest Hockey Club is putting together a bid to host the Western Regional Hockey Championships in 2014. The tournament involves Midget AAA hockey teams from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northern Ontario. Yorkton Harvest president Garth Simms said it will be Saskatchewan's turn to host the event and at least a couple other teams in Yorkton's league will likely apply to try and host. "We're working on a submission right now," quotes Simms.


Practices have started at the Gloria Hayden Centre for the Yorkton girls' softball team. The team is still looking for players. Practicing takes place on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 p.m., on March 25, April 15 and April 22. Practice dates are available to anyone interested in playing and are available at no cost. There will be a registration date on March 28.
