The annual hockey game fundraiser is set for March 21. The staff of both Yorkton high schools will face off against the students in a fun game at the Farrell Agencies Arena.


The annual hockey game fundraiser is set for March 21. The staff of both Yorkton high schools will face off against the students in a fun game at the Farrell Agencies Arena. Money raised from ticket sales will go to benefit a pair of students from MC Knoll Elementary School in Yorkton. The Terriers and Battlefords North Stars both find themselves trailing by a 2-1 count in their best of seven series in SJHL play. Nipawin put themselves up 2-1 following their 3-2 victory in game three on Monday night. In the other series, Humboldt led La Ronge 2-0 at press time and Weyburn took a 2-0 lead over Estevan with a 3-0 win. Game three of that series was scheduled for last night in Weyburn. Results were not available in time for press.


The SHHS and YRHS senior boys basketball teams will be playing this weekend. Sacred Heart will be hosting a four-tem conference playoff this Saturday involving four basketball teams. The YRHS, Balgonie and Melville. The first game begins at 10 a.m., and will feature the YRHS vs. Balgonie, followed by Sacred Heart vs. Melville at 11:45 a.m. The top two teams will advance to regional competition which is scheduled for March 16-17. Hoopla will be played March 22-24.


The men's bonspiel is scheduled for March 22-25 at the Yorkton Curling Club. Space is still available for individuals or teams that wish to enter. Contact the curling club for more details.


The Yorkton Storm Speed Swim Club hosted the provincial swim championships on Saturday and Sunday at the Gallagher Centre pool. Over 200 athletes participated in the competition including four locals.


The Yorkton girls softball team has started practicing for the summer season. Practices are held Sundays at the Gloria Hayden Centre from 3-5 p.m. The deadline for registration is March 28, 2012.
