Stockcar race season wraps up

The Yellowhead International Speedway held the season’s final stockcar races on Saturday, Oct. 15. The event was originally planned to take place over two days, but Sunday’s rainy weather prevented the second day from going ahead.

The Yellowhead International Speedway wraps up racing season with another successful day of racing in the sun. Though the weather was cold, fans came out to watch the last action of this year.

The Yellowhead International Speedway held the season’s final stockcar races on Saturday, Oct. 15. The event was originally planned to take place over two days, but Sunday’s rainy weather prevented the second day from going ahead.

The winner of both heats of the Thunderstock races, and the feature winner, was Niel Matkowski in car number 11.

In hobby stock cars, the winner of heat 1A was Ken Wicks (24). In heat 1B, the winner was Tyler Carter (20). Heat 2A went to Ken Wicks and heat 2B went to Kevin Fink. The feature went to Trevor Monk, who was declared the winner after five laps but his race was not completed due to a crash.

In the street stock division, heat 1A went to Dustin Byler (99) and heat 1B went to Stephan Klym (5K). Heat 2A went to Dustin Byler and heat 2B to Greg Mann (95). The Feature was not run due to time constraints and lack of lighting.

The speedway also awarded year-end prizes. The top thunder drive for the year was awarded to Neil Matkowski (11). Overall top car points was also awarded to Matkowski’s car, number 11.

The top hobby driver for the year was Marty Sharp (76).

The top street driver for the year went to Ryan Atkings (44).
