The Yorkton Storm Swim Club returned home from a recent meet in Moose Jaw with a record medal haul according to coach Ashley Benko. "Our 11 & 12 year old girls have been pushing each other all season long," said Benko, "and this meet was no exception."

In the 12 year old girls category Jillian Just lead all swimmers with 6 first place finishes. She was followed by Jayden Lang who collected 4 first place showings of her own. Lang came within 1 second of recording an "AA" time in the 50m butterfly. "Having just turned 12, Jayden has all year to reach that standard to qualify for the Man-Sask Meet," says Benko.

Alex Flaman recorded two first place finishes at the meet as well. She was awarded the overall Aggregate Award for the most points scored for top 3 finishes in the B Division. Flaman is the only swimmer to win an Aggregate Award this season.

In the 11 year old category Jennifer Haczkewicz lead the way recording 4 first place showings. Her best swim came in the 50m freestyle event where she broke 36 seconds and recorded her second "AA" time of the season. Jennifer's sister Kelsey, recorded one first place finish at the meet. Her 50m breaststroke time was 1 second away from the "AA" standard, a time that would have allowed her to attend the Man-Sask meet in Winnipeg this July.

Overall the five girls in the two categories combined for 30 top 3 placings at the meet. "They truly were golden girls," added Benko.

On the boys side of the pool, swimmer Jacob Baker chopped 6 seconds off of his 50m butterfly time. Brandon Nord clipped 9 seconds off of his 200m freestyle time and Auston Roberts erased 6 seconds of off his fastest time in the same event. Connor Watrych rounded up the club's strong showing in Moose Jaw by clipping 8 seconds off of his 200m backstroke time.

The next event for the Speed Swim Club will be their wind up and awards night.
