Terriers crushed by the Mills, Colts release Peyton Manning. What else could go wrong?

March Madness is the name given to the annual basketball tournament in the USA played amongst the various college teams.

Suddenly, March Madness can be applied to a whole bunch of other stuff completely unrelated to basketball.

Starting yesterday and going all the way until the first couple days of next month, TV sets everywhere are glued to CBS and Fox.

There is a little bit of Madness happening around here too.

After a couple years of finishing second in the SJHL come the end of April, Yorkton is one of the first teams to be eliminated from contention.

The series didn't even live to see a sixth game. After starting out so well, took a few bumps, lost two of next four games; two of those losses occurred in the last minute of play in the third period, and now the Terriers get to play golf.

Losing two of four games in the last minute really might have been a sign of something. Losing by four goals in their elimination, something was wrong.

Falling in five games has to hurt.

Winning only one game in a best-of-seven series has to sting too. That's March Madness.

If it's is any consolation, the La Ronge Icewolves got smoked in their opening round too.

This year, it's going to be either Melville or Weyburn vs. either the Broncos or Nipawin or North Battleford. Nipawin and the North Stars went to Game 7.

Hope the changes in Yorkton won't be as drastic as what seems to be going on down south of the border.

When a team gets shaken up completely, who knows what's next?

Not news anymore, as announced last Wednesday afternoon, some clown in Indianapolis decides not to keep one of the greatest QBs of our time on board.

First he decides to tell Peyton Manning to get lost, favouring some kid out of college (Andrew Luck) instead, then, according to tsn.ca on Friday night, they've released half their top players including TE Dallas Clark.

If the Colts had no confidence in backup QB Curtis Painter before, they've made it clear they don't have any in him now. They released him too.

The list of departed also includes RB Joseph Addai, LB Gary Brackitt and DB Melvin Bullitt

The day before, TSN reported that Manning was visiting the Denver Broncos camp.

That's not good news for Brady Quinn, Tim Tebow. Or the current QBs on about 5-6 other NFL teams.

Jim Irsay better know what he's doing.

I would suggest hold onto Manning.

Even if you think your team is going nowhere at least try not to make it obvious to everyone.

This much is official, the Indianapolis Colts will not be playing for a championship.

They won't even make the playoffs. For the first time in my life, they have something in common with the NHL Leafs.

The Leafs of course are another bad accident waiting to happen, but they have been since before Christmas. The only way the Leafs are going to make the playoffs is on an Xbox.

The YRHS boys curling team looked as good as gold making their way through district play, then going through regional play, then something happened.

They didn't fire their coach or opt not to 're-sign' their best player, they just went through a triple knockout and endured some bad luck.

While the two high school senior boys basketball teams met again this past weekend, this is where the March Madness basketball comes in.

The YRHS junior boys team both co-hosted the East Central Districts of boys basketball.

They won the title.

The wrestling team and cheerleading squad were both outside of Yorkton hoping to do well.

The other March Madness that actually was basketball around Yorkton was the two SHSAA senior boys basketball teams beating each other up down the street at Sacred Heart High School's gym. It was the closest game the two teams have played against each other. One team had the lead, then the other team took the lead, then the other team got it back, then gave it up again, then...etc.

On top of all of that stuff, I lost my 2nd iPod two weekends ago. I am also accepting donations of new/used ones. It's not Christmas, but I am hoping for an iPod Touch.

Feel free to drop 'er off if you no longer want yours.

If there's anything you'd like to see covered by Game 7, please forward your suggestions to the Yorkton This Week sportsdesk by phone (306) 782-2465, or email jeff@yorkton this week.com.
