Saturday was to be the first time in 20 years that the Togo Terriers senior recreation hockey team played a game on home ice.
The Terriers, who use the Broda Sportsplex in Kamsack when the natural ice in the Togo arena is not ready, suit up to play once a week, usually Fridays, but on Saturday the Canora Flames were to be in Togo for the game, William Harper, a team member who helps organize the team with Shaun Lawless, said last week.
The team is also scheduled to play a Calder team in Togo on January 21, and another team on January 25.
The Terriers, which had won a recreation hockey tournament in Langenburg last March, usually hosts a tournament in Kamsack at the end of March, Harper said.
On the Terriers’ roster are several players who live in the Togo area and who were once members of the Kamsack Flyers senior hockey team,
“Our season record to date is nine wins and four losses,” he said. The team plays teams from Norquay, Roblin, Churchbridge, Esterhazy, Springside, Langenburg, Kamsack, Canora and MacNutt.
“We keep the competition out of the games. They’re for fun. That’s better,” he said.
The kitchen in the rink was to be open for the game and on the menu was chicken wings,” said Amanda Burback.
