More people should be spending time at the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League lacrosse games because they are entertaining.
The crowd that showed up on Sunday included a bit for the home side, and some from the visitors' side, which in Sunday's case happened to be Regina, which was the biggest I've seen in there.
Asides from the floor, which officials said Sunday night were unsafe two-thirds of the way through the game, the lacrosse action around Yorkton seems like it's getting better with every single game they play.
The lacrosse Bulldogs, who don't get very much attention around here are starting to find the arena a little less empty each game.
They've got goalscorers, and guys who can play it physical with anybody in the league, and they have won provincial championships over the past several years.
Over the weekend, they won both games they played, there were ejections, lots of goals, and they even forced the other team into changing goalies before the game was half over.
Playoffs start for the team next month.
The Western Major Baseball League Cardinals are also starting to turn things around here and there. As is with all of the other baseball teams in the city, they aren't playing as much due to rain cancellations.
Going into Sunday morning, they aren't anywhere near the WMBL basement; in fact this week, they've got a pair of games scheduled in which they will play the basement team from Edmonton, that's if the rain doesn't come down before the game starts.
Heading into the work week, Yorkton's overall record sat at 4-7; that's not bad considering that last year, they were nowhere near being .500.
Last Tuesday night at home field, they rallied to bear the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the late stages of the game.
Four days later, it was time for their first home doubleheader of the season. It did not start out well for the redbirds who fell 3-0 in game one. Game two did go their way as they outscored the Beavers, 3-2.
If the weather held out long enough this week, it's Yorkton vs the Edmonton Prospects Monday and Tuesday as the Cardinals attempt to crawl to within one game of .500.
After Edmonton, it's off to Spitz Field in Lethbridge for games tonight and tomorrow.
