There have been some weird things happening in the world of sports over the past couple weeks or so.
Not the least of which happened over the long weekend when Tiger Woods was pelted with a hot dog while lining up to make a shot. Interestingly, the actual hot dog flew out of the bun on its way to Woods.
It happened Sunday afternoon on the 10th hole during the final round of the Frys.com Open in San Martin, California.
Not news anymore the Boston Red Sox had their playoff hopes crushed in literally one pitch when they fell to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.
The loss to Baltimore capped one of the biggest collapses for any team in the month of September.
Going back to Sept. 3, Boston had nearly a 10-game lead and it came down to the very last game of the season, and they lost.
Their record in September was 9-21.
Bye, bye Red Sox.
And as of this past Friday afternoon, it's bye-bye to manager Terry Francona.
In eight seasons with the Sox, he won two World Series titles.
In other sports news of things that don't happen every day, the Buffalo Bills beat the New England Patriots in a regular season football game two Sundays ago. The win snapped Buffalo's 15-game losing skid against the Patriots.
In the strange news of the past little while, some fool in Ontario thought it would be funny to throw a banana peel out on the ice during a National Hockey League preseason game.
According to reports on the www.canoe.ca web site, police have the name of a suspect they think tossed the banana at Wayne Simmonds of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Simmonds is black and it is believed the gesture was racist.
According to police reports, as Simmonds skated in on the Detroit net during a shoot out, someone threw the banana on the ice.
Apparently Simmonds skated around the fruit and scored a big goal.
The incident has attracted national attention and is widely denounced as being racist
