Three schools, 22 shooters and an entourage of support. The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) held their World tournament in Orlando, Florida over the Thanksgiving weekend. Students from Columbia, M.C. Knoll and Yorkton Regional High School participated along with 1000 other students from the United States, New Zealand and South Africa in the third annual event. The highlight of the trip was an organized Meet and Greet when archers were able to visit and exchange pins and memorabilia from other countries. "Overall, I think the shooters represented our country well," stated Mike Jarvis, head coach and trip coordinator.
The team was first put together in late May and have been practicing throughout the summer preparing for the event.
"We fundraised the majority of the cost of the trip but we need to thank our many sponsors who helped with the financial end. Without their help, we couldn't have done it."
Along with a day of shooting, the team also enjoyed the Disney Parks and a little downtime pool-side, a small reward for the hours of commitment put into the program.
The shoot was held in the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.
"It is a fantastic facility. The set up and space is incredible, " reported Jarvis. There was a cross-country event held at the same time with runners from across the US, but one would never have known, as facility is so spacious.
Our best placing shooter was Cailin Jarvis (M.C. Knoll) who finished 17 in her category. But great finishes from Lea Burnard, Brayden Jarvis, and Eric Pedwell helped put Canada 'right on target"!
