The elementary school basketball season will come down to the annual wind-up tournament scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; players from all Yorkton schools will play off.
Basketball games will take place in four buildings, says Mark Schendel, president of the organizing group, the Yorkton Elementary Schools Sports Association.
The boys' bracket will be played out at the MC Knoll and Yorkdale Central Public School gyms, he said, and the girls' bracket at St. Michael's and Columbia School gyms.
Games begin at 4 p.m., on the opening day of action he says and will wind up two days later with the finals' games.
The finals will be played at night, he said.
Vying for a title, on the girls' side, will be Yorkdale Central Public School, St. Michael's-1, St. Alphonsus, St. Michael's-2, MC Knoll I and II, St. Paul, Columbia School and MC Knoll-2.
Each of the above will be playing at either St. Michael's or Columbia School on the opening day of the tournament.
On the boys' side of things, Yorkdale, St. Michael's-2, St. Alphonsus, Columbia, MC Knoll I and II, St. Michael's and St. Paul's will be playing at either Yorkdale Central School or Columbia.
Games will also continue into Tuesday.
The winner will be determined by around 9 p.m., Wednesday night at what should be "a very packed" MC Knoll gym, notes Schendel.
"It will be busy and action packed."
There will be close to 30 games played throughout the three-day tournament and there is no admission charge, he said.
Wednesday's finale will come down to two games.
The girls final will be played at 6 p.m., and the boys, an hour later at 7 p.m.
MC Knoll's girls team is going into the tournament as last year's champions and the St. Michael's Stars are heading in as boys' team defending champions, says Schendel.
