Brandon Bitternose was among the participants at the Todd Bitternose Memorial golf tournament held last week at York Lake golf course. Next up at York Lake will be the Francis Cote Memorial July 1.

There will be upwards of seven tournaments to be held for the remainder of the season at York Lake's golf course, says new manager James Hodgson.

There may also be some renovations made to the landscape of the course as well, however, he's isn't sure when it will all be put into place.

He said he's consulted a company to renovate parts of the course including some minor work on the 18th hole.

Among the list of scheduled tournaments, this Friday, they will be hosting the Todd Bitternose Memorial. The following day (June 26), they play the hospital scramble. On Monday (28), the Dreambuilders 4-Person Texas Scramble will be on. Hodgson said there is an $600 entry fee and a 10 a.m., shotgun start.

On the 29th, the Yorkton Tribal Council holds their friendly golf tournament to round out June's list of events.

To open July, the Francis Cote Memorial tournament will be held on the Canada Day holiday and on July 17, it's the York Lake Ladies' Open.

In August, they will host the Junior's tourney, scheduled for Aug. 6.

Hodgson says he's looking forward to getting as many people on the golf course as possible, particularly women and kids as the season goes on.

He points out that they've haven't had to cancel a tournament as of yet and haven't had much in the way of rainouts just yet.

Both bookings and memberships have gone well, he said, adding that tournaments such as the recently-held Cam Hodgson Memorial drew about 110 participants.

James Hodgson said some of the events will bring out as many as 180 players.

As for the kids' participation, Hodgson is going to be holding a junior golf camp. He said the objective will be to teach the youngsters the very basics of the game and help to eliminate any bad habits at a young age. Amongst the teaching points will be discipline, respect, confidence and self esteem.

The age requirement will be 6-15 years old.

Also on the menu for this year will be promoting the female game of those interested in learning.Hodgson hasn't yet set up any clinic dates but said the club will be working on promoting the women's game as much as possible.
