Over the Christmas holidays, York Lake Golf and Country Club held a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for improvements to their clubhouse. Their goal was to raise $5,000 and they successfully reached their goal.
Specifically, the club was looking to raise the money to install a new air conditioner in the clubhouse once spring rolls around. The total cost of this project is estimated to be $10,000. The extra funds will come in through donated supplies, time and services.
Crowdfunding is the raising of money through small contributions from the public using the Internet and social media.
The “Baby It’s Cold Inside!” campaign launched online on Nov. 24. It gave those who donated the opportunity to do some holiday shopping from their home, while they help out their local golf club.
People who took part in the campaign were able to choose from a number of perks to purchase. They (or those on their Christmas list) received the gift, and York Lake will receive the money.
Donna Liebrecht from York Lake Golf and Country Club was involved with the campaign, and she said the campaign went well.
“It was pretty good. We found it was a lot of our regular members who contributed, which stands to reason. They were anxious to see us succeed,” she said.
As for running another crowdfunding campaign, Liebrecht said it all depends on what they are fundraising for.
For now, they’re looking forward to installing that brand new air conditioner in the spring, so that members and guests can enjoy a nice cool clubhouse after a round of golf on a hot day.
