The Holdfast Trappers came out on top over the weekend at the 2012 SBA Senior AA Provincial baseball championships at Jubilee Park.

The Trappers slipped by the Marysburg Royals by a 4-2 final to claim the title.

The Royals, who were dubbed the visitors for the championship final, got on the scoreboard early. Holdfast was able to cut the lead to 2-1 midway through the game before Holdfast went ahead for good late in the game.

The senior tournament brought an end to three days of high level baseball.

Kash Andreychuk, the representative of the Saskatchewan Baseball Association (SBA), said he was happy to be picked to be the SBA representation, noted that it was a tournament of eight "very evenly matched teams."

The Yorkton entry into the tournament lost two of their three games, but Andreychuk noted the first game could have gone into extra innings, and wound up a 7-6 loss to the Saskatoon Outlaws; the Outlaws went on to the tournament semi finals on Sunday morning. Yorkton lost 6-4 in their second game before rebounding for a 5-2 win over the Regina Red Dogs on Saturday.

"The weather was just perfect," added Andreychuk.

"The Yorkton volunteers did a good job."

As SBA designate, Andreychuk said the job is something that the Association expects will be hands on. Despite the games being close in score, nothing got out of hand, he notes.

"The SBA expects that it will be a hands on event."

Of the calibre of players in this division"there's very good players here," he says.

"The finals spoke for itself," he said, noting that the Holdfast victory over the Marysburgh Royals treated spectators to a pair of home runs.

"I don't think there were any errors on played balls."

Saskatoon had three clubs entered into competition (the Stallions, Diggers and Outlaws), the Regina Red Dogs and Yorkton Yankees made up Pool A. The Holdfast Trappers, Marysburg Royals and Lloydminster Twins made up Pool B.
