The YRHS junior team played Balgonie in the third game of the day.

The junior football team of the Yorkton Regional High School completed a triple bill of Regina Minor Football League action Sunday afternoon.

They hosted Balgonie at the Kinsmen Century Field and kept the score to within five points going into the half, however, everything went south for them in the second half as they dropped a 28-6 decision to Balgonie in their opening game of the season.

"The first game's always a tough game. Offensively and defensively it was fairly close," offers Mike Jarvis, head coach of the YRHS juniors.

He said they have been practicing for about two weeks and noted that there are still kinks to be worked out.

"We were prepared but there were jitters."

He said the good part of a loss is that now they know what to expect and hopefully things will turn around in their next game.

Yorkton appeared to get on the board late in the game as Brendon Weber had run the ball nearly half the field and into the end zone but the flags went up at the end of the play.

Jarvis said it was a backbreaker.

"It was a silly penalty. A mental mistake."

Yorkton was called for holding and Weber's touchdown was taken off the scoreboard right away.

Jarvis has 37 players out this year and "they're excited", he told media after the game.
