The YRHS survived an eight-team round robin and went on to defeat the Kincaid Kougars in the finals to capture Sacred Heart's Senior Boys' volleyball tournament over the weekend.
Dion Pfeifer, head coach of the Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS) squad said his team played eight matches on the day and the semi finals and finals were back to back.
He said Moose Jaw was tough and the visitors from Kincaid put up a fight that saw YRHS win by only a few points.
"The finals were tough," he said following the win over Kincaid which went the distance, and added that "we had to make some adjustments."
Pfeifer said Kincaid was very strong up front and his squad had to find some way to counter it.
"We needed to focus on those guys," he said.
Both teams played strong all the way through and Pfeifer made the interesting point of noting that their opponents were strong enough that "they make you make the mistakes."
He added that YRHS enjoys the opportunity to prove themselves each and every tournament that they play and no one win is better than any other.
"We hope we're peaking," he closed.
The tournament was their first in Yorkton since the start of the season, and YRHS will be hosting their own tournament next weekend, he said.
He said he got a good performance out of his middles and some changes saw Kostas Karachalios play the right, which according to Pfeifer, was a change.
