YRHS volleyball awards night

The YRHS volleyball teams held their annual awards banquet Monday night at Melrose Place in Yorkton. Five teams recognized outstanding achievements for the current season.

The YRHS volleyball teams held their annual awards banquet Monday night at Melrose Place in Yorkton.

Five teams recognized outstanding achievements for the current season.

Lee Poncelet opened things off with the presentations of awards for the senior girls team. Winning the MVP award was Emma Lockhart. Tamara Hershmiller won the Rookie of the Year honour and Brandi Neibrandt was given the Coach's Award.

Next was Dion Pfeifer, the coach of the senior boys team. Pfeifer said he is going to be losing half of his team to graduation next season. Winning the MVP award in his final season with the YRHS was Tyler Boychuk. Graham Campbell was named the Rookie of the Year, Ryan Teneycke was named the Most Improved Player and Jason Blommaert was the recipient of the Alex Robichaud Memorial honour.

Jennifer Ingham, coach of the junior/Gr. 9 girls volleyball team named Shelby Stratechuk the MVP, Brooke Bielka was named Most Dedicated Player and Breanna Melnechenko was named the Most Improved Player.

Darren Wandy, Jimmy Mak and Doug Ingham, coaches of the Gr. 9 boys team, announced Haylen Langelier as the team's MVP for 2011. Nathan Bewcyk won the Most Dedicated Player. Jordan Bieber was named the Most Improved Player award and the Coach's award was split between Riley Kerr and Tanner Mak.

To cap off the night, the final set of awards was for the Gr. 9 girls team, coached by Dee Dee Walker. Allison Ingham was named the Most Improved Player. Taylor Harris won the Hardest Working award and Caleigh Grunert was named the Most Sportsmanlike Player award.
