December 2010

Two thousand ten was highlighted by one of the few sports events that doesn't happen every day (or every year). Springside girls hockey vs the Moscow Atlant. A member of the Springside Lions girls' hockey team receives an email from a Russian hockey club. Not long after, the Springside Arena's parking lot is jam packed with hockey fans looking to get a glimpse of a Russian team based out of Moscow.

February 2011

Feb. 2 -
Springside Arena hosts the Major Hockey League all star fest, including a skills competition and game.



Feb. 9 -
Yorkton Terriers beat Melville Millionaires in two straight games.

Two of three YRHS curling teams win and qualify for regional curling competition in Churchbridge.

Autumn Ashcroft of Kee's TaeKwonDo in Yorkton heads to World TKD competition in Korea. She is the first female TKD athlete from Saskatchewan to qualify for the national team since 1999. "This is a major accomplishment and we are very proud of Autumn," says Master Wayne Mitchell of Kee's.

Feb. 16 -
Field hockey clinics held in Yorkton.

The Yorkton Harvest qualify for Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs for the second straight year.


Feb. 23 -
The Yorkton Terriers will play the winner of the SJHL Survivor Series.

March 2011

March 2 -
St. Alphonsus School in Yorkton holds a wrestling clinic.

Yorkton Bongo Volleyball hosts 27 teams.


March 9 -
Three members of Kee's TKD head to Germany (Matthew Bodnaryk, Rae Ashcroft and Autumn Ashcroft).

The Yorkton Regional High School junior boys basketball team wins the district championships under coaches Perry Ostapowich and Tom Schlam.

The Yorkton Terriers take a 2-0 lead on the Estevan Bruins in a best-of-seven series.

The YRHS mixed curling team wins a bronze medal at provincials.


March 23 -
Former Harvest Levi Cable wins three awards at the hockey team's annual awards banquet, including the Top Scorer, MVP and Top Forward.

A coaching change for the Harvest is announced as Jeff Odgers replaces Graham Garrett.

March 30 -
Susan Nagy of the Yorkton Skating Club is voted to Team Sask.

The Yorkton Terriers battle the LaRonge IceWolves for the league championship, the Credit Union Cup. It is a rematch of last year's final.


April 2011

April 13 -
The McSweeney's Selects 18U girls' volleyball team comes out on top at a local tournament after beating Southeast in two sets at the gymansiums of MC Knoll School.
