When it comes to music genres I like, folk music is among my favourites. So I always look forward to listening to new folk bands. This week I discovered the music of the Vancouver folk band The Fugitives with their new album "Everything Will Happen". This album did not disappoint, it is an awesome album. The album succeeded on all levels, the songs are sung perfectly, the lyrics are deep and meaningful, and it is all acoustic.

"Everything Will Happen" is 11 songs that will leave a person hard pressed to find a bad song in the bunch. Though there are not bad songs on this album there are few that stood above the rest for me. "My my" is sung differently than the other songs on the album but it works, and the band doesn't go wrong accompanying the lyrics with a piano. The other song that really caught my ear was 'Wilderness Years', it is a great song that will probably end up being the most notable song from the album.

"Everything Will Happen" is a great album, there is no away around it. It hit all the right notes in what makes an album great. If you are a fan of folk music you need to listen to this album, you will not regret it. This album is going to get repeated listens on my IPod, and it is going to go in my folk playlist where it belongs. Check it out.

"Normal Human Feelings"

Little Suns is an alt-folk band coming out of Montreal. Their debut album "Normal Human Feelings" has its own unique sound. Upon listening to the album you realize that the band was inspired by music from around the world. When listening to "Normal Human Feelings" you hear a lot more than the standard instruments that make up a normal folk album. You get the feeling that the band walked into the studio and started playing non-traditional instruments and picked the ones they liked then recorded the album. That being said this album isn't terrible, it falls in the good but not great category. The vocals are well done on the album, for me it was definitely the highlight of the album.

Each song on "Normal Human Feelings" sounds different from the others. There is no real flow to the album. Listening to this album sounds a lot like putting your IPod on shuffle. Sometimes you are going to get hard rock followed by folk music. This album is that extreme but the songs vary a lot which means you need a very eclectic taste to appreciate every song on this album. The one song that stood out for me was 'Where Do People Go When They Go Away'; I liked the instruments they chose for the song.

I didn't hate album by any stretch, but it didn't love it either. The best way to describe the album is 'meh'. The album is worth a listen only because it is different, although you might never listen to it.
