Dear Editor:
Tom Harris complains in his letter that some donors to the David Suzuki Foundation remain anonymous. The issue he has is how the Suzuki Foundation has some anonymous donors while also criticizing Harris’ group, the International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC) of being secretive for not revealing it’s funding sources. But, the devil is in the details.
To my knowledge, no one is demanding Mr. Harris reveal all of his sources, just enough to reveal his motive and intent. The Suzuki Foundation has met this requirement and has been above board. The ICSC however, has not. Mr. Harris has a long history of affiliation with the fossil fuel industry and records show he receives his funding from them. It is interesting he refers to the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition. This is, in fact, a group devoted to denying climate change and receives funding from the fossil fuel industry via the Heartland Institute. And, if Mr. Harris is not working for the fossil fuel industry, you have to wonder why everything he does is to defend them.
The question is a matter of motive and intent. We know the motive and intent of the David Suzuki Foundation because they have freely admitted it. Why does the ICSC work so hard to hide theirs?
