The more I delve into Archon the more I am liking Marco Maccagni’s art. It has the right stylistic elements to fit a story which is generally a bit lighter in tone.

With trolls and gnomes and dragons inhabiting a huge casino resort in the modern world it can’t be anything else, unless you were to take it into a much darker, all world setting.

Writer John J. Perez has this story developing in a very specific spot, and that fits what he has done so far.

With an art style not far removed from something which could fit on the Cartoon Network, and a story that has some mystery wrapped around something of a developing detective/police story, Archon is percolating nicely.

This is only issue #2, but so far better than good.

In Danger Girl Renegade #2 Andy Hartnell offers up a bit more on Abbey Chase’s past with a flashback to Tokyo nine years ago.

The look back set the stage for why Chase was on the run in her early years, staying ahead of forces who wanted her as way to leverage her father.

In the present Chase pulls off a heist, saving some girls about to be sold into slavery in the process, so we see her in action, a bonus in this sort of story.

Of course the ending is the hook here, setting the stage for the rest of the series, but that would be telling too much. Just grab a copy and check it out. The ending does promise some fun ahead.
