Dear Editor:
It is no mystery that climate change alarmists are ignoring the news that the Great Lakes are freezing over for a second year in a row the first time in 100 years. Although climate deniers do not deny global warming, the alarmists refuse to talk about global cooling, clearly because anyone who can persuade himself that the sun’s activity is the cause of global cooling but only man causes global warming is either a genius or an idiot.
The alarmists also gloss over the fact that renewable energy will never come close to completely ending the use of fossil fuels, thus forcing us to draconian measures to reduce carbon emissions. Just imagine what making it possible for most people to walk to work and to give up use of automobiles will entail. The lust for power is basic to all messianic dreams to save humanity.
So the pipedream of saving the world one country at a time blinds the eco-fascists to the fact that the fracking revolution has made it possible for North America to hugely reduce the dirty energy from coal, in China and India, with natural gas, and so solve the world’s emissions problems without outlawing fossil fuels.
Grounding environmental salvation in climate change is an attempt at a social and political revolution. It is really a form of neo-communism, with climate substituting for the worker’s paradise. The true believers risk not only bankrupting their countries, but also leaving the western world weakened in the face of the existential threat of Radical Islam. But true believers must have a world which can physically changed, since they can’t seize state power to change the sun any more than King Canute could order the tide to recede.
