There are days where I, openly, say I'm not proud to be a Saskatchewan Roughrider fan. A number of those days have come in the last couple of weeks as I listen to a number of other Roughrider fans call out quarterback Darian Durant for being less than what is desired. Do these people watch the games at all? From where I sit, I see a player who hasn't thrown an interception all season and has led his team to a 7-and-1 record. It is very similar to 2007 when Kerry Joseph won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award and that still wasn't good enough for fans. In fact, more than one said to me, "Well if Kevin Glenn played in that game for Winnipeg, we wouldn't have won." Truth is, we will never know. Joseph and the Riders often played to the level of their competition that season and I think the 2007 Grey Cup was one of those games where Joseph was as good as he needed to be and that was it. Durant didn't play well at all a couple of weeks ago against Montreal, but he still was clutch late in the fourth quarter. People also forget that Durant wasn't the only player to be sub-par in the Montreal game. I'll take Durant over the injury prone Ricky Ray as well as the somewhat inconsistent Travis Lulay. I said Durant has to deliver this year and to this point, he's lived up to the billing.
I spent a weekend earlier this month in Toronto, watching the Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics. I don't proclaim to have all the answers for Jay fans, but I would definitely change the manager at season's end. I think they have a solid batting order and a real good bullpen. The starting pitching staff and overall team defense is a disaster. I blame the manager for bad team defense. There are times when errors aren't even made that you can see players out of position and, therefore, unable to make plays. Nevertheless, the club makes too many errors and I think the only way to correct that is with a strict hand from the manager.
If you go to Toronto, stop in to Real Life Sports Bar and you may get to see a professional athlete or two. We saw three when we were there. Two of them were very friendly.
I didn't complain when I ate my $8 pulled pork sandwich at the last Roughrider home game either. That's a drop in the bucket when compared to $20 for popcorn and a drink at a Jays game. The carrot for the Blue Jay concession is you get a free refill. That's not so bad for the drink, but if you can go through two bags of buttery, salty popcorn then I would suggest you check yourself in to the doctor because there must be something drastically wrong with your digestive system. On one hand, they have to charge those prices to pay Ricky Romero's contract.
Two thumbs up to Yorkton Judge E.S. Bobowski for putting away a thief for a year and a half after the man posed as a worker from a local hardware store and then entered a home and left with a couple of bottles of cologne. The man also broke into a garage and a car that day too. Ordinarily, I'd say sentencing someone to 18-months after a break and enter isn't something that calls for a commendation, but judges didn't seem overly eager to put the accused away up until now. The guy had 66 prior convictions, including one for sexual assault in October 2012, on his record. I don't know about you, but to me if you have 66 convictions of anything then maybe you should have a permanent home in the grey hotel and not be on the street free to pose as a worker or break into vehicles.
Senator Mac Harb has resigned and will pay back eight years worth expenses. Oh, if it were only that easy for the rest of us if we were to pilfer money from our employer.
Here's my two cents on Miley Cyrus and her skimpy outfit at some awards show over the weekend: who cares. And, here are my thoughts on Ben Affleck being cast as the new Batman: who cares.
One of the many reasons I like Twitter: I got to have a short conversation with former heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe on the weekend. Simply not possible any other way.
Another reason I like Twitter: You can find some pretty good comedians on there. I follow a number of politically incorrect people. This one is borderline usable, but I think if you have a sense of humor you will, at least, grin. 'There is nothing worse than lying next to the person you love and they don't know you love them; or that you snuck into their house again'.
