Based on the information I've read, my heart goes out to a Humboldt family saddled with a $1-million healthcare bill from Hawaii after a woman prematurely gave birth and was forced to spend a few months in hospital there in order to preserve the best health interests of the mother and child. As it turns out, the parents-to-be took out Blue Cross and were told that they were covered in the event of a medical situation, but Blue Cross used a loophole to get out of paying. This is what bothers me about the insurance business.  If you talk to any common person off the street, a large number will tell you they don't trust insurance companies. To me, if I was an agent working in that field and I had a pregnant woman sitting across from me and she wants to be covered fully for anything possible that could happen to her, I'm going to give her the best coverage possible and inform her of any potential scenarios in which she wouldn't be covered and then let her decide if the risk is worth it. It doesn't sound like this was done here, and I hear stories all the time from people, who have good moral intentions, who get surprised when they attempt to utilize their insurance policy (whether it be health, life, house, etc.). If we all are expected to be experts in the world of insurance, why employ agents? Just let us all sign up online and roll the dice. Many of us are, actually, over insured and still would have difficulty collecting, I'm sure. Do you know of anyone who has a life insurance policy of, say a million dollars, and also has life insurance on the mortgage to their house or maybe their vehicle?  If so, ask them why. As far as this Humboldt family is concerned, they will not pay the bill (obviously) and file for bankruptcy. One other thing. Some have blasted the woman for taking a trip despite being pregnant. She was six months along, not eight. And, being pregnant shouldn't preclude you from living your life and having a good time.  There shouldn't have been any issue here.

I'd sure like to know who complained about the Prince Albert Raiders mascot being offensive. I haven't run into a single person who it offended and nobody on the message boards or news websites that allow comments seemed to have a problem with it either. In case you weren't aware, their new mascot was, apparently, offensive to their Arab fans. If you have ever been to Prince Albert, you will know that there is a heavy Arab population there and they are big supporters of the WHL club.  Truth is, I always thought the Prince Albert Raider was a pirate. That's how offended I am. This is a public call to those losing sleep over the Raider mascot to please come forward.

If you are ever in doubt as to how the general public feels about a particular issue, or maybe you find yourself thinking that maybe you are in the minority on something, then I encourage you to read the public comments that appear after a news story is written on a reputable website. I think you will find that 95% of us don't feel the way main stream media wants us to feel.

The Toronto Maple Leafs weren't in the media's good books last week. After going on a 6-1-and-1 run, they suffered two lopsided losses and that resulted in our nation's sports networks to declare the sky was falling and it was time to fire the coach, trade the team's leading scorer, and release a handful of others. Well, the Leafs (and I'm not a Maple Leaf fan, by the way) responded by defeating a tough Tampa Bay team, handily, and when the game was over they decided not to salute the fans, which has become customary at the end of each win. I listened to some of the call-in shows on the radio and the fans didn't deserve the players' salute. I'm on side with the players and it's high time they took a stand. The reason why they haven't won a Cup since 1967 is because playing there is like playing in Hell's Kitchen. The fans and media eat you alive. Even the best of us would crack, eventually.  I think free agents see this and, purposely, avoid signing in Toronto. If you take a look at the NHL's top players, after you get beyond the very obvious best players, Phil Kessel is right there. And, fans want him gone. Who do you think you are getting that's better?

I have next to no interest in the Grey Cup, but here's to hoping Kent Austin wins again. He's been a CFL coach for three years and has been to the championship game all three times. This year, he's done it with Zach Collaros at quarterback after punting Henry Burris at the end of last year. Everyone said he was crazy and the Ti-Cats would take a step back.  He's, bar none, the best coach in the CFL.
