Letter to the Editor - Admitting form wait time far too long

Dear Editor:

Anyone who has been to the Admitting Dept. of the Yorkton Hospital during these last few weeks can relate to this experience.

One mid-morning day in Feb. found me fasting for tests that needed an admitting slip. My number was 57 and they were currently serving #42. Nearly two hours later, I received my admitting slip.

Now to make this clear:

-I was NOT waiting to see a doctor.

-I was NOT waiting to go to emergency.

-I was waiting to get an admitting form.

During my wait, a countless number of other persons were "fit in" ahead of me and rightly so; they were scheduled for either day surgery or an orthopaedic clinic with specific appointment times.

During this time, two clerks were "trying" to process the full waiting room of clients. Even though there was standing room only, one clerk felt it necessary to take a coffee break at that time, leaving one clerk to complete forms.

The same situation existed again two weeks later in the early afternoon.

Granted there was construction at the site, however these questions should be addressed.

#1-When there are day surgerys or special clinics, why isn't an extra clerk put on to specifically handle these situations?

#2-How will management like this affect a newer facility when the present issues cannot be addressed?
