Dear Editor:
The legacy of Terry Fox continues in Yorkton. Since 1980 when the Marathon of Hope started, over $600 million has been raised for cancer research and Yorkton has been a contributing community.
This year will be Yorkton's 30th Terry Fox Run, so it's another opportunity for our community to do our part in carrying forward Terry's dream of finding a cure for cancer.
Over the years the city of Yorkton has raised over $140,000, a significant amount for a community of this size, something we can all be very proud of.
As this year's Terry Fox Run coordinator I am requesting some support to ensure this year's event is another successful year for Yorkton.
If you can donate a couple hours of time to assist in organizing please call me at (306) 783-9746 or e-mail [email protected]. The organizing committee is also looking for any service group, sports team or organization to assist the day of the Run with registration, set-up and other necessary jobs.
Gifts in Kind are also greatly appreciated for essential run day supplies such as water and food to name a few.
Lastly, the Run is not a success without participants and donations. The pledge sheets are being distributed around town but can also be accessed on-line. Anyone wishing to donate to the Yorkton Terry Fox Run can call the Terry Fox Foundation at 1-888 836-9786 or go on line to terryfox.org and donate to the Yorkton event.
The event will be held on Sunday, September 15, at the Gloria Hayden Community Centre with registration starting at 1:00 p.m.
Hope to see you all there, Working Together to Outrun Cancer.
Nadine Frisk
