I have always felt that various community groups are fortunate to have certain individuals looking after the organization and day to day operations of our local service clubs. However, there comes a time when these valuable people have to move on for various reasons. In the case of the Parkland Minor Baseball League, the secretary no longer has a child in the system. Yet, she's having trouble passing off the job because nobody wants to step up. This is just one of many examples I could give when it comes to dedicated people fulfilling volunteer positions. It wouldn't surprise me if there comes a time in the near future that some of our minor sports or extra curricular programs simply die because nobody is willing to take the bull by the horns and help out. Don't be afraid to help, folks.
I walked into the polling station on Monday to vote and remarked to the person beside me that I'd feel a bit more significant with my vote if I lived in southern Ontario
I live in an area of Yorkton that has a lot of traffic and I didn't receive a door to door visit from any of the candidates that are running in this constituency. I'd be curious to know how many did. I suspect Mr. Breitkreuz knows he doesn't have to try hard to win the seat, while the others know no matter how hard they try, it's an impossible fight.
By now, the execution of Osama bin Laden is old news. Still, I have to admit I've never felt such happiness at the news of discovering another man has been killed. Is it wrong to wish that his passing wasn't painless? He caused so much hurt and pain all the way around the world.
Odd fact: bin Laden's passing was announced May 1, 2011. Adolf Hitler was announced May 1, 1945. Strange.
If you are one of these people offended even at the mention of a proper burial for bin Laden, you must also consider there are extremists out there who are looking for any excuse under the sun to seek retribution. The proper burial is not out of respect for bin Laden, but rather to try and appease some of the lunatics. Either way, he's in the middle of the ocean somewhere right now.
Either the Saskatchewan Roughriders are doing things the right way, or Eric Tillman is having a hard time cutting his association with the team. I think there are upwards of a dozen players who are now on the Eskimos that were once affiliated with the Riders. I wonder if Brendan Taman is thinking at all about adding quarterback Jared Zabransky, who looks to have fallen out of favor in Edmonton. I think he'd be a good back up for Darian Durant.
Speaking of Zabransky, former Rider special teams coach (13th Man) Kavis Reed is now the head coach of the Esks. He says he 'forgot' to invite Zabransky to the team's recent mini-camp. There are a few things wrong with that statement. Namely, if he's lying, his credibility is already in question. If he's telling the truth, that might be worse. I wonder if he also 'forgot' how many players belong on the field at any given time.
The green men that usually hang out at the penalty box in Vancouver during Canucks games have gotten a small slap on the wrist from the NHL. Apparently they are not allowed to bang on the glass anymore. What kind of a request is that? Maybe the NHL could also issue a statement forbidding fans to leave their seat when cheering.
