On Wed., April 12, 41 SHHS students began a journey that many of them now call a trip of a lifetime with the help of EF Educational Tours.

Sacred Heart is the only high school in Yorkton that provides its students with a chance to travel out of North America to experience the history of other countries and cultures.

We left Regina at 6:20 am and flew to Toronto.  We then toured the city of Toronto while we awaited our 7.5 hour Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt, then a quick 1 hour flight to Berlin. Immediately after we arrived we began with a walking tour of Berlin, enjoying the Easter Market at Alexanderplatz, sampling authentic German cuisine and navigating the intricate Berlin Subway system.

Day two began with a bus tour of Berlin where we visited sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and the Berlin Cathedral Church.

Day 3 we travelled by bus to Dresden Germany where we explored the Baroque architecture of the churches and museums. We then travelled on to the Czech Republic and took part in the Czech Folklore Evening. It was an evening of traditional Czech food, music and dancing.

Day 4 we explored the amazing city of Prague including the St. Vitus Cathedral, Charles Bridge and a boat tour on the Vltava River.

Day 5 we traveled back to Germany to experience Dachau, the first Concentration Camp built and used by the Nazi’s.

Day 6 included a tour of the beautiful city of Munich and a stop at the BMW factory and showroom where the SHHS students were able to sit in the newest BMW cars, BMW motorcycles, Austin Mini and Rolls Royce automobiles.

Day 7 was a visit to the Neuschwanstein Castle. A highlight for many on the trip, the Neuschwanstein castle was finished in 1886 and is the inspiration for the Disney Castle.

Our final two days were in Lucerne Switzerland exploring the city and surrounding Mountains.

The students returned home exhausted but full of knowledge and stories to share with their families. SHHS has already begun planning its next tour which will depart for Italy in 2018.
