Dear Editor:
New Horizons Senior Citizens Centre, Board and Members, would appreciate being able to use your newspaper to extend well deserved “Thank Yous!” to several organizations, agencies, corporations and individuals in Yorkton.
Firstly, to Yorkton This Week for your co-operation and assistance for many years, whether placing an ad, an apology, a notice or a submission for publication. Your staff has always been friendly and very helpful.
CTV, CJGX and The Rock 98.5 FM. Each of you have provided us great service in advertising our dances and other events and we thank you.
Medichair and The Rock 98.5 FM, thanks to both of you for sponsoring and promoting one of our recent dances, providing gift certificates for door prizes, and bringing members of your staff and theirs to take dancing lessons and to socialize with us.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church for loaning us tables to use while we were awaiting new ones from our supplier. Your courtesy enabled us to continue serving lunch at our dances during that time.
Burger King, KFC, DQ Grill & Chill, Yorkton Co-op; and A&W for your generous donations of paper coffee cups. You have saved us about $700.00 and helped decrease our ‘footprint’ on the environment. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you A&W for the coffee donation at the same time.
Gifts of Gold, Gordon Food Service, Harvest Meats, Yorkton Dodge, McMunn & Yates, and SIGN for your donations to our Telemiracle fundraiser. Also Peter Kobylka, Bernie Wolkowski and Larry Kolylka who solicited the donations. We, thanks to you, made a good donation to a great cause.
Jeisel Tolentino, of Partners in Settlement and Integration, who has organized the ethnic cuisine free suppers at New Horizons. There have been three such this winter and not only do we thank her, we also thank the cooks/chefs who donated their time and expertise. Mexican night: Francisco Ayala and Hilda Hurtado. Filipino night: Albert and Karen Declines. Thai night: Tuk Knox and Catrina Knox.
Yorkton Public Library for allowing us to use a room and their computers for our Genealogy Seminars and workshops instructed by Gerald Moriarty.
The Sunrise Health Region for their funding grant to assist us in getting Yoga classes going twice weekly – Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Yorkton Lions for having provided the funds that enabled us to obtain new exterior doors. The Painted Hand CDC for their generosity in providing grants, over several years, which have enabled us to renovate and upgrade most of the Hall. Thanks also to those individuals and organizations who wrote letters of support for the various grant applications. There is still some work to be done in completing this.
The City of Yorkton and Tourism Yorkton for, their respective contributions of, a City flag and a Canadian flag which now fly proudly at the entrance to the Hall. Also, Yorkton Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Yorkton for their ongoing advertising and promotion of us and our activities.
Should it be that we have missed thanking someone, our sincere apologies to you as we are grateful to all who aid and assist us in our endeavours. It is strictly an oversight on the part of the writer.
Many in Yorkton have the belief that we are strictly a “dance club” for singles, or older folks, and such is not the case. Yes, we do host live(ly) dances every Friday night, but we have many other ongoing activities. Do not be confused by the word “Senior” as a membership ($5.00 per year) is open to anyone eighteen or older. There is one restriction in that one must be fifty-five to seek election to the Board of Directors or to vote at General Members Meetings.
For further information on activities, dances, rentals, call New Horizons at: 306-783-4835, leave a message and your call shall be returned. Better yet, do come out and join us in one of our activities.
Arliss Dellow
New Horizons President
