Almost any death that is the result of someone killing another is senseless, but I can't find any other word that fits the situation at the Kahk-ewistahaw First Nation where a 6-year-old boy was killed by another boy under the age of 12.
Publicly, details haven't been released at press time but I can tell you this was an, incredibly, vicious killing and somebody should be responsible.
Our system says children under the age of 12 cannot be charged. Okay, then who's responsible for children who commit crimes? You can't just chalk it up as a crime that you cannot prosecute.
Someone is responsible and if the boy who committed this violent act isn't responsible, then I don't think it's a leap to say authorities should be able to arrest the parents/guardians.
Overall, society would be a better place if parents were held to a higher standard when it comes to raising their kids.
In Regina, a parent has been issued a warning for leaving two young kids in a hot car. Incredible. Incredible that authorities could be that gullible to believe a grown-up doesn't have the scruples to know that leaving any living creature inside a hot vehicle for even thirty seconds is very, very dangerous.
Dogs, cats, children, anything that breathes can, and will, die a real unpleasant and torturous death if left in a make shift oven that is a vehicle. Think about it. How quick are you rolling down windows or cranking up the air conditioner full speed when you get in a hot vehicle for the first time? Now try to consider what it must be like to be left in there alone for ten minutes? Enough with the public awareness. Charge these morons.
In the United States last week, an 8-year-old boy and his 6-year-old sister snuck out of the house in their pajamas and stole their mom's vehicle. The boy, who was driving, smashed into a pole and killed his little sister. The scene was discovered by the grandmother, who was on her way over for a visit. How tragic.
I never thought I would live to see the day where I could look at something cruel being done in a part of the world and think to myself, "Well, that's how they live so it's none of my business." But, that's exactly the thought process I have when it comes to what is taking place in Syria.
I am very thankful I don't live in a country like that and also very grateful to live in North America where we have a pretty good army to defend terrorist acts when they attack us here on our soil. But, nothing good can come of the United States attacking Syria to protect the greater peace of the world.
It's ridiculous that we've reached a point where I simply throw my hands up and say, "As long as you aren't killing my kids with poisonous gas, then I really don't care what you do."
The reality is that if we leave them alone, they aren't likely to do something over here. If they do, then I will be first in line to support killing a mosquito with a jack-hammer. The fact is that we will never win. Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden are dead.
Now we have quacks in North Korea and Syria. If we got rid of them, somebody else would emerge as the Hitler of the day. Let's just protect what we have and be thankful we don't live over there.
I didn't hear any calls to put Darian Durant on the bench this week after his 4-touchdown, 320-yard performance against Winnipeg at the Labour Day Classic. Durant, simply, is the best quarterback in the CFL as of right now.
Meanwhile, I am not sure the Blue Bombers can play any better than they did on Sunday. They had the lead at halftime, but they just don't have the horses to hang with a Saskatchewan team that is, far, superior and playing in front of 45-thousand fans.
