Whether we like it or not, the summer is slipping rather quickly away. I took some time off to pursue my own adventures although some were unexpected. A family get together near my birth home, Canora lured me to hit the road from Medicine Hat the morning of Thursday morning, July 23.
The risk of possible rain was in the forecast and the traffic was moderate. I got to Regina at 2 o’clock and heavy rain and mist were covering the city. Visibility was questionable at times with wipers going steady. Un-fortunately I made the wrong turn and ended in parts of the city unfamiliar to me. After driving around for about a half hour trying to get back on the Trans-Canada highway I finally saw a sign posted east road.
Since I was heading east, I took that road. There were some rough spots, but soon the city was left be-hind with the thought that some familiar places will be somewhere along the highway. The highway was rather strange as far as road signs were concerned—there were none. I continued on as the rain had eased and I rather enjoyed the scenery and less traffic on the road. A sign “Qu’Appelle Valley” gave me hope that I was on the cor-rect road, however it was not the road to the town of Fort Qu’Appelle.
I continued on until a sign posted that Raymore was ahead. I knew that from that point I could make my way to Yorkton and on to Canora. In checking the map, the road east actually took me north on the No. 6 Highway out of Regina.
All in all the adventure took me to areas which I had not been before and I had a geography lesson in names of places in Saskatchewan. Although there were times when I thought what if I would have had road or car trouble I did not know where I was, but all in all it ended well.
My week-long visit came to an end and there were no problems making my way back home after experiencing several hot days. On July 23, Regina had flooding after the heavy rain.
