Dear Editor:

This past week saw a rather historical event take place in our community. The election of a Mayor and Council while taking place every four years, took on a magnitude and a direction of — change. Voters have spoken with their ballot and the results are known. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Yorkton Business Improvement District and our 400 members we wish to say thank you and congratulations to all.

First to those who allowed their names to stand, who made the effort to get involved in something that a great many of us are either afraid to do or simply do not want the responsibility of doing. Just by being a part of this process you have earned the right to say you were a candidate and that you tried.

To those incumbents who have gone through this process many times with different results, a special thank you. You more than anyone know the demands placed on a person in office. You have given your personal time in a variety of ways. In many cases you have deprived your family life, missed personal events for public events, taken telephone calls at strange hours and attended hundreds of meetings, took time off work without pay and been the public subject of close community scrutiny.

We thank you for your service to Yorkton. We trust that after a brief period to catch your breath you will again become an active part of our community in whatever way you wish. Bringing with you the wisdom and strengths that you have gained by giving of yourself to public service as a member of Yorkton City Council.

-Thank you all.

Sophia Hamm
Chair Yorkton Business Improvement District.
