Sometimes, you just can’t say it as well as the politicians can say it in their own words. There again, sometimes, one suspects/ the politicians likely very much regret what they’ve said.

It is indeed a cliché but just where did the past year go? At this time of year we all reflect on the year that was, and it’s no different in the newspaper business.

Last weekend. Thirty-seven degrees below zero, sunny and no wind. Chickadees chirping, woodpeckers pecking, snow making crisp gasps under my boots. And me, moseying along the row of spruce trees in our side yard, loppers in hand. Humming Christmas.

I don’t normally go in for click bait on Facebook, but occasionally something catches my fancy and I succumb. The headline was something like “27 shockingly disgusting things people used to eat.” Of course, none of them were truly shocking.

Christmas is just a few days away, and as gardeners we associate many plants with this beautiful season. Poinsettias, holly, evergreens, amaryllis, all so special for the color they bring to our homes.

Tis the season of giving … and, for this political columnist, a little atonement for all the nasty things we’ve written. What better excuse than Christmas to give our Saskatchewan politicians overdue credit for what might have been overlooked.

Each year, like clockwork, someone will mention that Die Hard is their favorite Christmas movie. The logic is sound, it’s a movie, set at Christmas.

I have always been a big fan of murder mysteries. I get this from my mom with whom I used to watch Columbo when I was but a wee lad. One of the great shows of all time is Murdoch Mysteries.
