Hawarden man charged with setting Outlook park fire

Blaze erupts in regional park, bringing out multiple fire crews.

OUTLOOK - A 25-year old man from Hawarden has been arrested and charged with arson stemming from a fire that was started in the Outlook and District Regional Park this week.

Just before 4:00 pm on Tuesday, October 4, the Outlook Rudy Fire Department and the crew from the Conquest Fire Department were called to a blaze in the riverbank area just below LCBI High School.

Working together with the neighbouring Conquest crew, the flames were said to be extremely hard to reach at times, but the blaze was contained at approximately 8:00 pm that evening. Firefighters continued to monitor the area into Wednesday as hot spots could pop up throughout the day.

While fighting the flames, the crew determined that the fire had been deliberately set. A suspect was seen near the fire and the RCMP were called.

Shortly afterward, RCMP located an adult male, arresting and charging him with arson. The suspect is set to appear in Outlook provincial court on November 17.
