Outlook fire hall open house welcomes major turnout

An open house hosted by the Outlook-Rudy Fire Department welcomed a large turnout.

OUTLOOK - The Outlook-Rudy Fire Department welcomed a massive turnout to their second annual open house event on Friday, September 29 at the Outlook fire hall.

Visitors enjoyed either a hotdog or a hamburger meal with drinks and sides, and also took the time to take in a number of activities, including visiting a merchandise table that was set up, as well as engaging in some interesting gameplay such as shooting a stream of water at a collapsible fire, testing one's strength at lifting a dummy up into the air using the heightened ladder on the fire truck, and playing what can only be called 'Jenga Jaws' in which the Jaws of Life were used to pull out the pieces of wood and place them elsewhere without knocking any of them over.

For some visitors, it was a fun way to enjoy a Friday evening while for others, perhaps it was a wakeup call that helped shed light on the many ways and various equipment that the Outlook crew uses in battling flames and tending to emergency scenes.

In 2022, the Outlook-Rudy Fire Department tended to the following callouts:

15 false alarms
9 grass fires
2 car accidents
2 powerline fires & incidents
5 structure fires
3 calls for EMS/RCMP assistance
5 vehicle fires
2 calls for mutual aid
7 landings of STARS Air Ambulance
