OUTLOOK — The late Winton 'Bud' Hardy, an Outlook native who ventured off to the Ukraine to serve after he believed he was set for something deeper and more meaningful in his young life, now has a permanent honour placed in his home community that bares his name.

Will Hardy, Bud's brother, sent this photo to this reporter, which shows an eyecatching granite bench that has been erected in Outlook.

The bench is located behind the town's water works station on the bike path, close to the Legion Hall where, earlier this spring, Bud was remembered with a special ceremony and his family presented a medal recognizing Hardy's service and sacrifice.

His family, including brother Will, mother Diane, and sisters Marie, Cristal, and Arlene accepted the medal on Bud's behalf.

Bud Hardy, alongside another Canadian, was killed on June 10 of last year by an FPV drone strike in the town of Staromaiorske, located in the eastern part of Ukraine.

The memorial bench, much like the service held in April at the Legion Hall, recognizes Hardy's service and sacrifice.
