PREECEVILLE — Mayor Darin Newton from the Town of Preeceville brings warm greetings.

"What a beautiful summer we’ve had, even with ducking out of the odd rainfall or trying to avoid wildfire smoke. There’s so much to do around Preeceville. If you are listening and have never been to our area, it’s worth the drive. Come check out our friendly town and all it has to offer. This summer has had a lot going on, with programs for kids put on by both the Town and the Library, swimming, camping, Old Home Week, and Western Weekend to name a few.

"Mainstreet Market is still ongoing, with the Great Pumpkin Contest happening during the Sept  27 Market. Keep an eye on those gardens, and if you have pumpkin, carrot, beet, or really anything that has grown to impress, by all means bring it out to the contest to show it off! There are many prizes to be awarded!

Stick around town on the 27th as the Missing Piece hosts a Fall Outdoor Trade Show from 4-8 pm, with a variety of local vendors, and the Café will be open with beverages and baked goods. If you would like to book a table, contact Franky at 306-594-5489.

The Mainstreet Markets will, however, come to an end, with the final Market on Oct 18, which will see the EDC hosting an Oktoberfest that day.

"Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in North America right now, and there is a very active club here. They meet twice a week at the Sturgis School gym. Currently they play Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. with members from Preeceville, Sturgis and the surrounding area. If you are interested, please feel free to come out and try it! Don’t be shy, as they have had players from age 20 all the way up 70!

"Did you know that Club 60 is open to anyone? Fees are only $10 per year. Starting in the fall, they will once again have monthly whist tournaments, shuffleboard and cards every Wednesday. They host a potluck lunch every Wednesday as well. Club 60 is also open to rent for groups, meetings or larger family gatherings such as anniversaries or milestone birthdays.

Summer holidays are getting close to the end, and school season of classes will begin. Preeceville School will be welcoming a new school principal, and I want to wish Doug King a happy retirement! The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 2.

If you haven’t yet gotten your school supplies, all the lists are up on the Preeceville School Facebook page.

If you have 3 or 4-year-olds, don’t forget about Preeceville Nursery School! Going to Nursery School before kindergarten helps your child with social skills, as well as basics like printing letters, and then putting those letters in order so they can write their own names! If you haven’t registered yet, call 306-547-8434 or email [email protected]

"Don’t waste these last days of summer indoors! Get up, get out, and get active! There’s always something to do in Preeceville! Have a great week, everyone. Enjoy your Summer!"
