PREECEVILLE — Hello again from Preeceville, everyone, stated Preeceville Mayor Darin Newton
"Well, we have come to the end of another great season for the museum. August 31 was the final day of operation for this year. But, hold on. You can still support them by coming out to the museum on September 5 for pie and a coffee in the afternoon. Interested in joining the Board, or just want to help out? Come for pie and talk to them, as they are always looking for volunteers.
"The rec board’s Fall Festival is coming up fast, being held at the Sports Grounds on Sept. 13. Lots of fun was had by all who attended last year. This year will be bigger and better, as we expand into the evening. The gate opens up mid-afternoon, there will be scarecrow decorating and other kids’ events like a petting zoo and carnival games. There will be roast corn, smokies, s'mores, wagon rides, and we are hoping to have a bonfire. Then bring the kids home, and come on down for the beer gardens and enjoy live music into the night. This is a free event for everyone.
"Mainstreet Market is still ongoing each Friday, but will, however, come to an end, with the final Market on Oct. 18, which will see the EDC hosting an Oktoberfest in Memorial Park that day. But until then, come out and support vendors and the weekly fundraiser barbecue.
"The Great Pumpkin Contest will be happening on Saturday, Sept. 27. Keep an eye on those gardens, and if you have pumpkin, carrot, beet, or really anything that has grown to impress, by all means bring it out to the contest to show it off. There are many prizes to be awarded.
"Stick around town on the 27th as the Missing Piece hosts a Fall Outdoor Trade Show from 4-8 p.m., with a variety of local vendors, and the Café will be open with beverages and baked goods. If you would like to book a table, contact Franky at 306-594-5489.
"Summer holidays are over, and school is now back in session. Please be sure to obey the school zone speed limits, and watch for school buses stopping in the morning and afternoon to pick up and drop off children. Let's all stay safe out there.
"If you have three or four year olds, don’t forget about Preeceville Nursery School. Going to Nursery School before kindergarten helps your child with social skills, as well as basics like printing letters, and then putting those letters in order so they can write their own names. If you haven’t registered yet, call 306-547-8434 or email [email protected]
"I know it’s still early, but some costumes need planning. The annual Halloween Dance at the Hall will be on October 25th, and you can save $5 per ticket by getting them in advance. Pop by the town office to get those.
"Don’t waste these last days of summer indoors. Get up, get out, and get active. There’s always something to do in Preeceville."
