The Memorial tree stood tall and bright all through the Christmas season acknowledging loved ones who have passed away.

PREECEVILLE - For many of us, Christmas brings back many fond memories of times past that speak about how we celebrate this season and with whom we celebrated.

Community and surrounding area residents paid tribute to loved ones who have passed on through purchasing a Christmas light bulb. The bulb was placed and lit on a special memorial tree with names of loved ones who have passed away being acknowledged and recited in a lighting ceremony held in Preeceville on Dec. 22.

The names of loved ones who have passed on were represented by a lighted Christmas bulb on the string of lights on the tree located at the south end of Main Street in Preeceville. The Preeceville United Church Women’s League sponsored this event.

“Tonight, we stop and take the time to remember those that have left us, always too soon, to continue their journey beyond the one here on earth,” said Shelby Sliva, one of the organizers. “Amongst the hustle and bustle of the busy Christmas season, our hearts may still feel heavy, for there is a void for our loved ones unable to be with us today. Tonight we fill our hearts and minds by remembering those special smiles, comforting hugs and vivid memories.

“Please bow your heads for a prayer: Heavenly Father please be with us in this sometimes difficult season to cherish and enjoy all the memories we have of those that have passed. Help us remember that you are always with us to help us through these times and that by your grace we can enjoy the season because we have these memories and your love to get us through. In Jesus name we pray Amen,” prayed Sliva.

The evening ceremony concluded with the singing of Silent Night.
