Sturgis Club Archers conclude season

STURGIS - As the junior archery season approaches the end, the members of the Sturgis Archery Club shot their arrows at specially printed targets. The class began with coach Linda Westermann explaining the importance of acknowledging the people, businesses and other clubs that help the archery club. 

“The club not only thanks those who gave funds, but also donated items, space, their time, and their experience. Each target was individually addressed to one of the supporters with a personalized thank you note,” said Westermann.

An individual archer used that target for their practice rounds, then signed it and it was mailed out. This year, along with Sask Lotteries, they would like to especially thank the Preeceville branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation for their donation of funds toward purchase of two introductory bows and arrows. 

“It is good for the club to have basic bows for new archers to try out. If they find they have an interest in pursuing the sport, using club equipment gives the archer and their parents some time to learn the basics of archery and about equipment, and then they are able to get equipment that is suited to them. So thank you to the Preeceville Branch Wildlife Federation for giving us that benefit,” said Westermann.

Participating in archery at Endeavour this year were: Liam Townsend, Sawyer Townsend, Ross Townsend, Brendan Salisbury, Nolan Westermann, Eric Sandager, Luke Sandager and Freya Sandager.

Participating at Sturgis were: Leah Thideman, Savannah Neilson, Carley Walker, Sarah Masko, Claire Masko, Kolton Fortin, Jacob Johnson and Gabriel Bellegarde.

Along with regular Junior Archery Shoots in Sturgis and in Endeavor where they worked at receiving badges, the young archers enjoyed some special shoots. They had a Zombie Slayers shoot before Christmas, Cupids Revenge at Valentine's, and Sponsor Targets in March. Some members of the club are heading to JOP (Junior Olympic Program) championships in Prince Albert in April. The coaches are planning to have a special shoot at Easter and an outdoor year-end shoot in May.
