Mrs. Shirley Fandrey beloved wife of Grant Fandrey of Yorkton passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. Shirley Fandrey was born in Sudbury ON of Alex and Helen (nee Diak) Lungull.

Mrs. Shirley Fandrey beloved wife of Grant Fandrey of Yorkton passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. Shirley Fandrey was born in Sudbury ON of Alex and Helen (nee Diak) Lungull. When Shirley was two the family returned to Saskatchewan and farmed in the Whitesand and later the Good Spirit districts. Shirley was united in marriage to Grant Fandrey, her soul mate on August 19, 1967 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorkton. Shirley and Grant were blessed with one daughter Shantelle. Shirley worked for many years in food and beverage services. She worked with The Corona Hotel, Artistic Catering and for eighteen years at the Royal Canadian Legion. She was also a member of the Parkland Ladies Optimist Club and a Royal Canadian Legion Member. Family was always very important to Shirley. She looked after everything for her family and her home. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed her garden and flowers. Though she was an only child she kept in close contact with many relatives and some of her cousins were like her brothers and sisters to her. Shirley, Grant and Shantelle made many trips in their RV's visiting relatives and seeing parts of Canada and the United States. Shirley always loved being around people and visiting with friends and acquaintances she had made through her years in Yorkton. Whether it was out at the casino or playing cards and visiting regularly with close friends Shirley was always very genuine and easy to visit with. Even though she wasn't feeling the best some days she always thought of others before herself and made sure others needs were met. Shirley had a great love for animals especially her cats Hobbes and Meca. Shirley also had a love and passion for country music. In her earlier years she played guitar and sang on CJGX and CKOS Profile with a variety of local musicians who were friends and family. Shirley and Grant looked forward to loading up the motor home to head for the Country Music Festival in Dauphin. Recently one of Shirley's greatest joys came in to her life with the birth of her grandson, Dexter, as he grew so did there special bond. She cherished and always looked forward to babysitting Dexter while Shantelle and Shayne were at work and would make sure she had homemade soup and pancakes prepared. Shirley was not only a wife, mother and grandmother she was also our best friend. She will be greatly missed. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Helen Lungull; her father and mother in law Oscar and Betty Fandrey and her brother in law Doug Fandrey. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Grant, her daughter Shantelle (Shayne) Roebuck and their son Dexter; aunts, Mary Frey of Lethbridge, AB and Olga Lungull of Hudson Bay, SK; a brother in law, Larry (Phyllis) Fandrey; a sister in law, Ruth Owen of Regina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many special friends. A Service of Comfort was held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were held on Monday, June 4, 2012 from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorkton officiated by Rev. Fred Schneider assisted by Ray Yost. The organist, Carla Laycock led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "In the Garden", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Blessed Assurance". Interment followed in the family plot in the Garden of St. John in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Ron Jarvis, Clifford Ehrlich, Everett Puchaito, Don Danyluk, Bob Rusnak and Russell Lusney serving as casketbearers. Memorials in memory of Shirley may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or towards Heart & Stroke, Lung or Cancer charities as gifts of remembrance. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
