Peter Yerema of Yorkton, SK, passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on December 25, 2013 at the age of 83 years. Peter was born and raised on the family homestead near Buchanan, SK on July 9, 1930. He was the oldest son of Dmytro and Maria (Palchewich) Yerema. Peter received his education at Bellenden School, south of Rama, SK. On October 10, 1959 he married Isabelle Novakowski in Preeceville, SK. They lived on the farm SW of Buchanan from 1959 to 1976 at which time they moved to Yorkton. Isabelle and Peter longed for children of their own which, resulted in the adoption of their first son, Adrian in 1970. Leigh soon joined the growing Yerema family in 1972. Then in 1977 the miracle baby, Trevor, was born and their family was complete. Peter worked in Yorkton at the Dept. of Highways and made many good friends during his time there. He retired in 1996 and looked forward to spending his time refining his paradise at Sunnyside Beach, where the family cabin resided. Peter was an active member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and his booming voice could be heard in the choir every Sunday. His love of music was renowned and playing the violin for family and friends at get-togethers, weddings, and birthdays was legendary. He also loved fishing in both summer and winter. His generosity and hospitality were endless and we have all tasted a sample of this. The family will forever be grateful for the wonderful memories left behind. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Peter was predeceased by his parents: Dmytro and Maria; wife Isabelle; brother Terry; and sisters: Anne Shinkewski and Irene Skoretz. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Adrian (Corry), Leigh, and Trevor (Vered); his brother Bill (Joan); grandchildren: Kayde, Erin, Spencer, Matthew, and Isabelle, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Prayer Service was held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna and Very Rev. Fr. Mel Slashinsky officiating. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity as tokens of remembrance in memory of Peter Yerema.
