YORKTON — The city's newest girls basketball team closed out its first season with a spirited exhibition match up June 20.

The Harvest Hotshots, sponsored by Harvest Meats, faced off against the U13 Boys Blue Jays in a fast-paced game that ended within a few points.

The Hotshots, made up of U13 girls from the community, wrapped up a season marked by strong development, growing confidence and team chemistry.

“We couldn’t be prouder of this group,” said team representative Darcy Zaharia, adding, “they’ve grown so much, not just as basketball players but as teammates. It’s been inspiring to watch their journey.”

Coach Johanna Fleger was credited as a driving force behind the team’s growth. Her guidance was described as positive and deeply impactful for the young athletes.

The team also offered thanks to the players, their families and supporters for helping launch the program.

Organizers say excitement is already building for next season. Those interested in joining are encouraged to contact the Yorkton Blue Jays Basketball Club.
