YORKTON - What’s the old saying about good things come to those who wait?

Well local area musician Steve Gibson is certainly hoping that holds true as he and his band are finally unveiling a new recording.

“Gibson & Co. has been a project in the works since 2020,” noted Gibson in a Yorkton This Week interview. “We’ve hit a few obstacles along the way — most significantly the pandemic, which slowed everything down.

“Beyond that, recording a strong full-length album takes time.”

The new band includes Gibson, Courtney Sophia, Adam Breitkreuz, Joel Ivey, and Roger Angove.

At the same time the band needed to come together.

“We’ve also been focused on building our foundation: creating our sound, developing our image, and building a following through social media,” said Gibson.

“Now, everything’s in place and we’re ready to move forward.”

The new work is a bit of a course change for Gibson personally.

“Steve Gibson Music was my main focus after I moved to Canada,” he said.

“For a long time, I struggled to find the right producers and a team that truly understood and supported my vision. The music industry is tough—and without the right people in your corner, it can feel nearly impossible to move forward. I didn’t want to release anything I didn’t fully believe in.

“But the industry often rewards trends and expects a certain cookie-cutter image, and if you don’t fit that mold, it’s easy for your music to get overlooked.”

Gibson said the time lapse really didn’t make things any more difficult than the music industry already is.

“No, I don’t think the time gap has made things more difficult — in fact, I believe it’s helped me,” he offered. “Over the years, I’ve gone through a lot of personal and musical growth, and my fans have come along for that ride. Many have supported me from my Steve Gibson Music days right through to Gibson & Co., and they’ve been excited about the new material.

“If anything, the space between these projects has been a blessing. It’s shaped who I am and allowed me to create something I’m truly proud of. I don’t believe in regrets—everything happens for a reason, and this path feels like the right one.”

While time changes everything Gibson said he has stayed something of a steady course.

“At its core, my music has stayed true to the same course it’s always followed, but with Gibson & Co., it feels more raw, more honest, and more connected to who I really am,” he said.

“Working with Adam Breitkreuz at Bright Lights Studio has been a game-changer — he’s helped me shape a sound that’s authentic and exactly how I’ve always wanted my music to come across.

“This album took a couple of years to make, and I’m incredibly proud of every part of it. I’ve always believed that an artist is only being true to themselves when the music reflects exactly who they are — and that’s what this record does for me.”

So what are the influences of the latest effort?

“Ghost is the debut album from Gibson & Co., and it’s me laying it all out — no polish, no pretending,” said Gibson. “It’s the scars, the wild nights, the battles I’ve fought, and the truth I’m still chasing.

“From Outlaw to Ghost, this album is about owning your past and not backing down.

“It pulls from classic country, outlaw roots, and a bit of grit and soul that comes from living life with your eyes wide open.

“It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s everything I am.”

Of course the band is new too.

“We all met through mutual friends over the past few years,” said Gibson. “We’d shared a few stages and worked on different projects here and there, and the chemistry just clicked. Everyone in the band is incredibly talented — not just musically, but professionally as well.

“Each member brings something unique to the table, whether it’s songwriting, performance, or business sense.

“Together, we’ve built something special with Gibson & Co.—a powerhouse group with the heart and drive to go the distance.

Gibson & Co. actually started as an idea back in early 2020, said Gibson.

“But with the world shut down during the pandemic, the future was uncertain — so we used that time to slowly start planning,” he added. “We focused on writing the album, shaping the sound, and building everything around it.

“As things finally began returning to normal, we finished the record, locked in the merch, built up our socials, and dialed in the live show.

“Now, we’re ready to hit the stage and blow people away.”

And, Gibson said the band has a plan.

“Social media has been a key tool for us — it gives us control over our own promotion and lets us connect directly with fans,” he explained. “We’ve been using it to build momentum and keep people in the loop.

“We’re also releasing a few singles to radio, starting with Ghost (released in the spring), and following up with Moonshine, which drops mid-August.

“It’s all about getting the music out there and letting it speak for itself.”

Gibson said Ghost “set the tone for the album and introduced Gibson & Co. to a wider audience.

“It’s a raw, honest track that really captures who we are. . . Ghost was chosen for its emotional grit and vulnerability.”

Moonshine dropping in mid-August, brings “a punchy, outlaw energy we’re excited to share,” said Gibson. “. . . Moonshine brings the swagger and drive that showcases our live sound.”

Gibson said they are planning to release two more tracks to radio after that.

Digital releases are rolling out on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major streaming platforms throughout the year, with the full album scheduled to be released digitally by early 2026.
