SASKATOON – Twenty-four-year-old Kobe Favel has been in custody since his arrest for allegedly using a dating app to lure and rob a Saskatoon man at gunpoint. A release plan, however, is in the works, defence counsel Marie-Therese Bayda told the court.
Favel’s attendance in Saskatoon Provincial Court was waived Aug. 22 and Judge Darren Howarth adjourned the matter to Aug. 29.
Favel, who is from Prince Albert, is charged with armed robbery, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of MDMA. The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 26, 2022.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) say that Favel went to a man’s home after meeting him through a dating app. While there, the victim struggled with Favel and a gun went off, which resulted in the victim receiving minor injuries. Favel then allegedly fled the scene with the victim's vehicle, bank card, phone, and the contents of his gun safe.
The victim had called SPS and they found him in a parking lot in the 1600 block of 33rd Street West at approximately 3:30 a.m. SPS used their Air Support Unit to locate the stolen vehicle, which they said they found attempting to hide on Grey Place, and Favel was arrested without incident.
