LA LOCHE — A preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for Melissa Laprise to stand trial will be held in La Loche Circuit Court in August.
Laprise, 42, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 49-year-old Ryan Piche from Clearwater River Dene Nation.
In May 2022, police had been notified that a badly injured Piche was being transported in someone’s vehicle to the hospital. Police and EMS responded right away and found the vehicle in Garson Lake Road. Piche was pronounced deceased by EMS.
La Loche RCMP say that an altercation had occurred at a home in Garson Lake, which is in northern Saskatchewan and close to the Alberta border.
