Interpol puts former Saskatoon man on most wanted list

Timloh Butchang Nkem skipped his sentencing hearing in a Saskatoon court in 2014.

SASKATOON – A man convicted of rape who failed to show up for his sentencing hearing in October 2014 is on Interpol’s most wanted list.

Timloh Butchang Nkem, now 34, has been wanted by Saskatoon Police Service for almost a decade. SPS issued a Canada-wide warrant for Nkem after he failed to appear in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench on Oct. 31, 2014. He was found guilty of sexual assault following a trial and was to be sentenced.

Saskatoon police say they have received tips from across Canada about Nkem’s whereabouts. The SPS’s Sex Crimes Unit have followed up on all of the tips in different provinces as well as in Africa where he is from.

An African publication said they were contacted by the victim’s mother asking for help locating him. PM News in Nigeria reported that Nkem's father was a Nigerian diplomat at the time. The mother told PM News that her daughter was unconscious when he raped and sodomized her. Nkem raped her in an off-campus University of Saskatchewan residence Jan. 1, 2012.

The International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as Interpol, helps police forces from member countries to locate fugitives. They also provide forensic and analysis support.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Timloh “Butchang” Nkem, please contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
