Man charged with drug trafficking after vehicle stop by RCMP CRT

AHTAHKAKOOP CREE NATION – A 34-year-old Saskatoon man faces drug trafficking charges after a vehicle stop by Saskatchewan’s RCMP La Ronge and Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Teams on Oct. 3.

Officers were conducting proactive patrols on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation when they observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 790.

Police determined the adult male driver was showing signs of impairment and he was arrested. The police investigation determined he was also in breach of court-ordered conditions. During a subsequent investigation, officers located and seized approximately 44 grams of cocaine, a sum of cash, and trafficking paraphernalia in a hidden compartment in the vehicle.

The man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by the commission of an offence, driving while impaired, refusing to comply with a demand for a blood sample for analysis, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Oct. 6.
